Overview
This guide walks you from unboxing through a verified setup and a safe first transaction. The layout uses a dark, professional palette with bright accents to draw attention to actions and cautions. Follow each heading in sequence for a secure and repeatable setup process.
Unboxing & Verification
Inspect Packaging
Check the outer box for holographic seals and tamper-evident stickers. Confirm that contents match the packing list: device, cable, recovery sheets, and documentation.
Record Identifiers
Note device model and serial number. Store those in a secure record separate from your device and recovery materials.
Connect & Initialize
Connect to a Trusted Computer
Use your own device and official Ledger Live software. Avoid public or unknown computers. If you prefer extra safety, use a freshly booted environment or live OS.
Install & Verify Ledger Live
Download Ledger Live from https://ledger.com/start. Verify the website certificate and use the official installer. Launch the app and follow the on-screen prompts to connect your device.
Firmware & Authenticity Checks
Only accept firmware updates signed by Ledger. Verify firmware versions in Ledger Live and cross-check any published fingerprints if available.
Seed Generation & Storage
Your recovery phrase is the ultimate backup. Protect it as you would a physical safe key.
Create a New Recovery Phrase
Generate the seed on-device and write it down using the supplied recovery sheets or a durable backup like an engraved plate. Never store the seed digitally without strong encryption.
Consider a Passphrase
A passphrase adds a hidden layer to your seed (an optional 25th word). Use it only if you fully understand that losing the passphrase means losing access permanently.
First Transaction & Recovery Drill
Test Transaction
Send a small amount to and from the wallet to confirm operation. Always verify addresses on-device before approving transactions.
Recovery Drill
Practice restoring the wallet from your backup on a spare device or in a controlled environment. Time the process and document any issues encountered.
